Women’s Institute

The Brief

In today’s politically correct world, where sexism is frowned upon, one question remains – do you still have to be a woman to be in the WI?

The Loony Letter

Dear Sirs,

I am planning to become a woman shortly, I will be having an operation to finally become of the fairer sex after many years of hiding from my peers.

Once this is complete, will I be eligible to join the WI, or is it judged on gender at birth?

I look forward to hearing from you,

Bill Bennett

(Soon to be Sarah Bennett)

P.S. I can’t knit, but I’ve got a lovely swimsuit that shows off my 34D’s really well.

The Reply

Dear Mr. Bennett,

Thank you for your letter of July 4th. I am pleased to confirm that on the completion of your operation, you will of course be eligibie to join the WI.

You will then be able to take advantage of everything the organisation offers and I do hope that you will either get involved in our campaigns or enrol for some of the many courses that we offer at Denman, our WI college in Oxfordshire.

Best wishes,

Yours sincerely,

Jana Osborne,
General Secretary.

The Review

So that’s sorted then. As soon as I have the chop, I can participate in cake sales and the like. Not gonna happen though. I’m quite, you know, attached to certain things – both literally and figuratively.

I have just had a read through your site and it’s fantastic ( and no, this is not meant to sound like one of your sarcastic letters ^_^). I do have a few suggestions, one would be to contact Lego saying you love the company but you hate (fear) the way the pieces fit together. Would they make some new inter-joining pieces so you would be a happy customer? I would write it myself but clearly you are superior at this.
