The Brief
It’s the law for MPs and MEPs to respond to any queries or issues that their constituents may have for them.
There’s a policy that’s just asking to be abused if ever we heard one…
The Loony Letter
Dear Sir,
Today I ate a sandwich.
Yours sincerely,
Bill Bennett
The Reply
Dear Mr Bennett,
Thank for your letter dated 20th December.
I have noted the point you have made.
Yours sincerely

The Review
Somewhere in this poor MEP’s files, he’s had to spend time noting down that on 20th December, someone in his constituency was eating a sandwich. It’s a pity he didn’t write back asking what the filling was.
The European parliament are thinking of introducing a new law saying that when the MEP visits parliament, he has to read out to his fellow MEPs all the ‘points’ his constituents have made to him, along with a report on what he’s going to do about it.
Wonder what the Conservative party’s official policy is on sandwich-eating…?

Dear Bill,
You should consider yourself lucky to have received a response. I sent a letter over 2 years ago to my local MP concerning very serious and distressing matters and am still waiting for his response…
