Coca-Cola

The Brief

Pepsi or Coke? The great debate rages on. However one potential source of opinion remained untapped…

…the manufacturers.

The Loony Letter

Dear Sir/Madam,

What is the difference between Coca-Cola and Pepsi? Which is superior in your personal opinion?

I look forward to hearing from you,

Bill Bennett

The Reply

Dear Mr Bennett,

Thank you for contacting us regarding the taste of our products.

It is always a pleasure to hear from our consumers, especially those as enthusiastic as you are. Unfortunately we can not comment on other brands not owned by the ‘Coca-Cola’ company so therefore can not give you a personal opinion. However our policy is to produce soft drinks that deliver maximum satisfaction to our consumers, made to the highest possible quality at all times. We have ingredient, product and manufacturing standards that are applied uniformly across our operations wherever they are in the world.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time and trouble in writing to us with your concerns.

Yours sincerely,

Maria Vaughan

The Review

We sent the same letter to Pepsi and Coca-Cola. While Pepsi said they thought their product was better, this reply from Coke is essentially saying “we’re not going to answer that, because someone might sue us”. Great.

And what’s up with the line “those as enthusiastic as you”?! The first draft of their reply probably read “those as sad and pathetic as you with nothing better to do with your time than write to soft drinks manufacturers because you’ve got no friends”. Well, Coke – piss off.
